Abstract

Soybean meal material is the primary material for poultry feed that is imported
from Brazil and Argentina in a large quantity. In material transportation, there are many risks for unwanted things. Therefore, to minimize the risk, it is necessary to minimize the duration of material unloading. To minimize the duration of material unloading, the company rents as many dump trucks as possible which causes a dense queue. It causes an increase for the unloading truck queue time. This excessive use of resources also causes an increase in cost. This problem is caused by there being no base to the calculation of how many resources to use for the soybean meal material unloading process. To reevaluate resource use, simulation will be carried out because of the characteristics of simulation that doesn’t need to interfere with the running system. Based on the result of the simulation, resource use for dump trucks could be reduced to 32 dump trucks for sunny and rainy weather without any change in the total duration of material unloading. The utilization of the receiving area in sunny and rainy weather reach 80%, therefore it is recommended not to reduce the number of receiving area opened.
