Abstract

PT.X is a company that produces sandals and upper shoes located in Surabaya. This company has a high defect rate sandal production, which is 9.9%. The purpose of this research is to reduce the number of the defect sandal production in PT.X using the DMAIC steps. The 5 Why’s tool is used to analyze every cause of the defects. The result shows 5 of the biggest defects type in the company, which are the patchy glue, non-standard upper pull, unclean products, problem with the variations, and broken insole. The efforts used to reduce the defects is done by giving a pile of material to get additional pressure on the gluing process with a roll machine, changing the method and a tool to rub the primary liquid, checking the cleanliness of the glue cloth, giving gloves to the upper operator, change the bending method of upper flip in the gluing process, cleaning the roll machine when dirty, pressing the installing variations, replacing the tool for putting upper into the insole. Control steps is carried out by giving work instructions on the gluing process with a roll machine, the process of applying the primary liquid, the upper pulling process, installing variations, and putting the upper into the insole.
