Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana representasi shio pada visual cover majalah Intisari. Sejak tahun 2002 hingga saat ini, majalah Intisari selalu menggunakan shio pada gambar cover di setiap edisi bulan Januari. Pada perkembangannya di tahun 2012, visualisasi shio menjadi semakin mendominasi dengan visualisasi yang lebih menarik. Oleh karena itu, peneliti tertarik untuk melihat bagaimana representasi shio pada visual cover majalah Intisari. Penelitian ini menggunakan semiotika Roland Barthes dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan tanda yang didapat dari visual cover majalah. Menurut hasil penelitian, representasi shio pada setiap cover dari tahun 2011 menuju 2014, menjadi semakin rumit secara visual sehingga menimbulkan makna yang beragam. Shio yang terepresentasikan dalam cover majalah Intisari memiliki arti yang berbeda-beda sesuai dengan kondisi yang ingin digambarkan untuk tahun tersebut. Shio yang digambarkan dengan penggambaran gaya barat maupun timur menunjukkan bahwa saat ini shio telah menjadi sesuatu yang global. Gaya penggambaran shio dalam cover juga mempengaruhi penemuan makna serta pengaruh yang didapatkan oleh audiens.
